BeadSpirit Designs – “Bridging the Past to the Present”
I am self-taught in traditional (Native American) beadwork beginning about 25 years ago: moccasins, ceremonial items and dance fans, leather pouches and my own northern style buckskin regalia. As my love for gemstones and jewelry design grew, it has since evolved into the more contemporary line that you see today. However, I have still held on to these time-honored techniques by incorporating them into my statement necklaces & earrings. For instance, the edge beadwork you see on my pieces is the same stitch used on the tops of cedar or tobacco bags while the peyote stitch is used on the handles of dance fans and rattles.
My work has been featured in several art galleries over the years with the most recent collection appearing at the Waterloo Center for the Arts. You can view some of my work in the premiere western publication Cowboys & Indians magazine dating back to September 2004 and more recently October 2022. Several awards have been received while touring the art show circuit that include Best of Show 1st Place and 2nd Place titles. Currently, you can find an extensive, one-of-a-kind collection at Stone Feather Road in Billings Montana.
A portion of all sales goes into my Little Spirits Fund. This fund I have set up to help Native American children & babies living on the Pine Ridge Reservation of South Dakota. During the summer months we ship out the most requested and much needed items: diapers/wipes, shoes/socks, winter coats/boots, food and drinking water. Across the winter months we work on providing heat to elders, Veterans and single caretakers as many go without. The need is so great.
