Howard Zankner

My interest in art started at about nine years of age when my mother gave me a set of watercolors.  Since then I’ve painted in oil and watercolor.  Somehow I developed a dislike for those mediums and moved toward egg tempera.  This change started in the late seventies and since I found no instructors I studied Renaissance artists and later well-known artists including Andrew Wyeth, Peter Hurd and others.
Learning egg tempera is a lifelong effort.  Unfortunately, without a mentor my work is slow and I will continue to look for improvement.  Most of my efforts now are landscapes on gesso over masonite.  Egg tempera is a medium which is always surprising and inspiring to me.
